この特集は去年の５号でもやっていたようで、今年はこれに続く２回目らしい。
『MONOCLE』は「A Briefing on Global Affairs, Business, Culture & Design」（ちょうど「ABCD」になっている）というキャッチフレーズの雑誌で、扱うテーマは社会・ビジネス・カルチャー・デザインまで幅広い。それを支えるテキスト、写真、エディトリアルデザインのレベルもきわめて高く、まさに「完璧な雑誌」だ。
都市というものは、社会・ビジネス・カルチャー・デザインなど多様な側面をもっている。『MONOCLE』の都市特集が面白いのは、都市というものの多面性をそのまま受け止め、描き出すだけの力量がこの雑誌にあるからだろう。
